Our February book is Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books. Kirsten Miller brings us a bracing, wildly entertaining satire about a small Southern town, a pitched battle over banned books, and a little lending library that changes everything.
We’ll also discuss our January book Finding Margaret Fuller since our meeting was cancelled due to weather. In the company of Ralph Waldo Emerson and enlightened friends, the beautiful, brilliant Margaret becomes “the radiant genius and fiery heart” of the Transcendentalists. She inspires Louisa May Alcott, sparks Nathaniel Hawthorne to create Hester Prynne, and forms close bonds with Henry David Thoreau and Emerson himself. However, Margaret’s soul yearns for more than poetry and drama, leading her on a journey of adventure and self-discovery.
